Commodore Ruth Lovelace
“Rutean Pleasure”
1st
Mate – Jeanne Yeagley
Monroe Bay marina, Colonial Beach, VA Ruth has
held all positions with WYA except for Treasurer. She is actively involved with Potomac River Yacht Club Association (PRYCA)
and is presently the Rear Commodore for the association. Prior to her involvement with the founding of the Westmoreland Yachting
Association she and her partner, Jeanne, were members of the Colonial Yacht Club. Ruth held a position with them as Fleet
Captain.
Having several years of exposure to boating and a passion for the
hobby she attained her USCG Captains License for Offshore Waters. She has and does actively serve as delivery captain upon
request. As previously referenced she is a founding member of the club and continues to support boating
by belonging to several maritime organizations.
“As the Commodore of WYA I serve at the
pleasure of the membership and feel that the club not only belongs to the members but their interests must be represented
by all Bridge Officers. The clubs health and welfare are the officers responsibility and as Commodore I look forward to working
with everyone to promote safe boating and encourage perspective members to come and join all of us while having fun and fellowship

Captain of Saylors Delight Docked at home in Colonial Beach 1st Mate:
Peggy Saylor Diane is on the Board of Governors for Severn Sailing Association (SSA) (BOG), Member-at-Large, SSA; Facilities and
Junior Committee Rep to the BOG. She is in the process of acquiring her Captain’s License. She has been with WYA as
a Captain for two years and 1st Mate for 4. Diane started boating at 1 year old. She has always wanted to be around
water since then. Her Parents have had 21’ ski boat to 42’ cruiser and has 50++ years of Boating Experience. The
first 25 years were spent on the Great Lakes, and Florida. She participated on the International Olympic type Dingy racing
all over the US and in: France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, and Brazil; Racing and Cruising 30’-40’ on
Potomac and Chesapeake Bay between International events since 1980. Diane U.S. Sailing, past
Woman’s Open Championship Chair; American Society of Naval Engineers (past VP), Society of Naval Architects and Marine
Engineers, past sailing craft committee and now advanced naval vehicle committee member, specialist in high speed planning,
sailing and multi-hulls; Surface Warfare Association; Navy League. Boating Honors: 1st US Sailing Women’s Nationals
’87 (2nd – ’88, 3rd – ’89); 1991 International Sailings Women’s
Bronze Medalist; 2003 World Laser Master Champion Lady; SSA Fleet Champ, plus several other trophies and
awards. Diane says ‘I’m so ready to cruise to places and have fun!!!!!”

Rear Commodore Hope Jackson "High Hopes" Port Kinsale Marina, Kinsale,VA First Mate This is Hope's
first full year as Rear Commodore for WYA. She is the current Webmaster and past Chair of the Customer Service Committee.
Prior to being a Founding Father of WYA she and her husband, Les, Captain of High Hopes, were members of Colonial Yacht Club.
Alhtough Hope always loved the water, she never experieinced boating until her husband, Les, purchased High Hopes 10 years
ago. Being the Rear Commodore of WYA is a wonderful combination of planning events, being with friends and enjoying the fun
of boating.

Treasurer Doris Bentry Buswell
Regal
Commodore 28’ docked at home in Colonial Beach Doris and her husband Buzz are Founding members of WYA. Doris has had extensive experience in financial management roles in the corporate world.
She served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Treasurer of a major regional bank holding company for a decade and
followed that as Industry Director/Financial Services for Oracle in Latin America. In addition she was
Treasurer of the Colonial Beach Foundation, a member of the Board of the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce
(3 yrs) and President of the American Institute of Banking (Washington DC Chapter) for many years and
other banking related organizations. Doris‘ love of the water evolved in her
youth on small powerboats while enjoying waterskiing, crabbing, etc. on the Rappahannock. Later in life
she became an accomplished sailor and owned several Pearsons ranging from 30-35’ cruising the Chesapeake Bay.
Currently, Buzz and Doris are the proud owners of Nottingham which is the Regal Commodore mentioned earlier.
